Skye, the former voice of Morcheeba, was one of the main artists who played in Cannes during the 40th Midem.
Performing in front of an audience composed by “experts” instead of a crowd of fans was something unusual for her and during our exclusive interview Skye confirmed that she was a bit nervous once on the stage because the crowd was so quiet. Even during the show, the British singer confessed her nerves to the audience. However her nervousness didn’t affect the performance and Skye left the audience satisfied and well impressed after her 30 minutes long show.
Talking about her previous experience with Morcheeba, she was very clear in that she had a great time with the groups great successes (they sold five million records with “Big Calm”) but now things are different, she does not feel famous because of that and does not want to.
She is now launching a new solo career and is much more involved in every aspect of the album, for instance she writes the lyrics. This has been a big change for her leaving her free to be more personal in her music, writing about her life, her feelings, her stories.
Skye’s debut album will be released in February 2006, the video was shot just before Christmas, in Jamaica, the country where her mum comes from, and this has been another way to establish her “new” image.
