The Return of Cinema Made In Italy!
London Ciné Lumière presents the 8th edition of Cinema Made in Italy. Just as title of the festival says Italian cinema will be presented to UK viewers. This year the genres will vary from hilarious romantic comedies to intense dramas.
The line-up includes 8 Italian films:
- Rainbow (Una questiona privata)
- Stories of love that cannot belong to this world
- Hannah
- Love and bullets
- The Intruder
- Fortunata
- Cinderella the cat
- Una famiglia
The line-up also includes the 1977 classic: A special day, directed by Ettore Scola. To make sure you visit the film of your interest, we’ve made a briefly introduction about the movies.
Rainbow (Una questiona privata)
The opening film Rainbow is directed by Vittorio and Paolo Taviani’s noted Italian film director and screenwriters. It’s a world war 2 drama featuring Luca Marinelli, Lorenzo Richelmy, Valentina Bellè, Anna Ferruzzo and Giulio Beranek. The story is an adaptation of a well know Italian novel by Beppe Fenoglio about an Italian partisan named Milton (Luca Marinelli) torn between the resistance movement and his obsession for a young woman named Fulvia (Valentina Bellè). Rainbow by Paolo Taviani was nominated for Golden Anchor Award in 2017. The film will be in London Ciné Lumière on the 7th of March.
Stories of love that cannot belong to this world
Claudia (Lucia Mascino) and Flavio (Thomas Trabacchi) were happily in love, however when love disapears and connection is broken Claudia decides to move on with her life. After many years both of their lives are missing some direction and purpose. He wants to forget everything and start moving on; whereas she would rather never forget. This romantic dramedy is directed by Francesca Comencini who is also an author of a book who inspired this movie. Francesca Comencini has been nominated at the Locarno International Film Festival 2017 for Variety Piazza Grande Award. On the 8th of March Stories of love that cannot belong to this world will be in the London Ciné Lumière.
Hannah
Hannah, directed by Andrea Pallaoro shows a very intimate world of woman’s loss of identity as she teeters between denial and reality. Left alone with no support as all the people that are the most importan to her, son and husband are in prison, Hannah (Charlotte Rampling) begins to unravel. The film is nominated was multiple times in various international awards and was the winner of Best Cinematography (Chayse Irvin) Silver Hugo Award, Best Stagehand (Roberto Di Pietro) the La Pellicola d’Oro Award and Best Actress (Charlotte Rampling) the Volpi Cup. You can see Hannah on the 9th of March in London Ciné Lumière.
Love and Bullets
Love and Bullets is a dramatic love story directed by Antonio Manetti & Marco Manetti showcasing Giampaolo Morelli, Serena Rossi, Claudia Gerini and Carlo Buccirosso. It’s not a typical romantic love story. You will see gunfights, wild motorbike chases and speedboat escapes, with some beautiful landscapes coming from Naples, where the movie was shot. Love and Bullets have won 2 awards at Venice Film Festival 2017 – Best Production Manager in an Italian Film (Daniele Spinozzi) La Pellicola d’Oro Award and Best Cast (Carlo Buccirosso, Antonio Buonomo, Claudia Gerini, Giampaolo Morelli, Raiz, Franco Ricciardi and Serena Rossi) Pasinetti Award. Love and Bullets is on the 9th of March in London Ciné Lumière.
The Intruder
The Intruder, directed by Leonardo di Costanzo is a story touching upon conflict and danger set in present day Naples. Like a modern Antigone, a social worker on the frontline of the daily war against criminal mentality is confronted with a moral choice that can destroy the sense of her work and her life forever. Leonardo di Costanzo already won a lot of awards for several films he has made previously made. The film is available in London Ciné Lumière on the 10th of March.
Fortunata
Fortunata is directed by Sergio Castellitto follows a lady named Fortunata (Jasmine Trinca) who’s marriage has failed. Her ex-husband is aggressive and won’t let go of her and their child. However the women try to stay strong an reach for her dreams – open a hair salon. With all the issues in life it’s difficult to make her dream come true, especially when she meets a handsome psychiatrist. Fortunata has been nominated for several awards, and also won some already. Jamsmine Trinca who played the main roll as Fortunata has won Un Certain Regard – Best Actress and Silver Ribbon – Best Actress. You can see Fortunata in London Ciné Lumière on the 10th of March.
Cinderella the cat
The classis cinderella fairy-tale gets an unexpectedly dark update in this strikingly animated film. Directed by Alessandro Rak, Ivan Cappiello, Marino Guarnieri and Dario Sansone. Cinderella the cat was nominated at Venice Film Festival 2017 for best film. The film will be in London Ciné Lumière on the 11th of Marc.
Una famiglia
Una famiglia is a drama about a couple which debates between business, love and life directed by Sebastiano Riso. Vincent (Patrick Bruel) and Maria (Micaela Ramazzotti) look like an ordinary couple, he’s a good partner and a passionate men. But nothing is what is seems… In 2017 Una famiglia has been nomineted at Venice Film Festival for best film. On the 11th of March you can see this film in London Ciné Lumière.
