Life as Hitman – Mockumentary
☆☆☆☆
Taram Killam – ex Saturday Night Live’s cast member marks his directorial debut with a mockumentary on Hitmans called ‘Killing Gunter‘. However T. Killam isn’t just a director in the movie, he is also one of the main character Blake, together with other well known faces: Bobby Moynihan, Cobie Smulders and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Effective assassin Blake puts together a “top-notch” group of assassins specialising in various fields: from explosives, to poison and hacking. Together the team hopes to catch and kill the best and deadliest hitman in the world – Gunther (Arnold Schwarzenegger). In order to prove how amazing the team is Blake hires a documentary crew, that gets to follo
w them everywhere where the deadly group goes, even follow them to a firefight where everything is unpredictable and dangerous. However Gunther wouldn’t be called the best for nothing if he wouldn’t have a few tricks up his sleeve…
Movie is full of light and absurdist moments, that makes viewer giggle basically through out the movie. Majority of the cast has some kind of background in comedic field, especially Taram Killam and Bobby Moynihan both spending a good amount of time at Saturday Night Live’s. The movie does have a very strong documentary or mockumentary would be more correct feeling. The whole film viewer is as if part of the camera crew, as if the camera itself. This way the viewer is closest to the action and knows every single detail and the evil plan, but also is kept in the unknown and received the same amount of information as the group of assassins.
The humor is light and in many cases a bit ridiculous, thus making it easy to enjoy. Up until the third act Gunther is a mystery, however his reveal mixes everything. So despite being an easy to watch movie, it keeps it viewers attention to the very last minute.
