It’s here!! The 71st annual Cannes Film Festival is on from 8th to 19th of May. The prestigious film festival shows cases the best films of all genres, including documentaries, from all around the world. And it’s the place to bee seen!

Main Palme d’Or/ Main competition: The highest prize awarded at Cannes Film Festival. The Palme d’Or is widely considered to be one of the most prestigious awards in the film industry. In 2017 the Palme d’Or was won by Ruben Östlund from Sweden with the film ‘The Square‘.
Un Certain Regard: A section of the Cannes Film Festival’s official selection. They are looking for films with various types of visions and styles, which tell their stories in nontraditional ways. It was introduced to recognize young talent and to encourage innovative and daring works.
Camera d’Or: The best first feature film presented in one of the Cannes’ selections. Last year Camera d’Or was won by Léonor Sérraille with the film Montparnasse Bienvenue/ Jeune femme.
Cinéfondation and short films: Award for best short film. It comprises eight films, chosen from 3943 submissions.
International Critics’ Week: this is the oldest parallel non-competitive section of the Cannes Film Festival. It showcases first and second feature films by directors from all over the world. Their goal is to discover new talents.
L’Œil d’or: Prize for best documentary presented during the festival. The prize, which consists of €5000, is presented to the director of the winning film.
For the main Palme d’Or this year President of the Jury will be Australian actress Cate Blanchett. The other Juries for the Palme d’Or are:

- Ava DuVernay, American director
- Robert Guédiguian, French director
- Khadja Nin, Burundian singer-songwriter
- Léa Seydoux, French actress
- Kristen Stewart, American actress
- Denis Villeneuve, Canadian director
- Andrey Zvyagintsev, Russian director
Un Certain Regard has a Jury including Benicio del Toro (Puerto Rican actor) as Jury President.
Camera d’Or has a Jury including Ursula Meier (Swiss film director) as Jury President.
Cinéfondation and short films has a Jury including Bertrand Bonello (French film director) as Jury President.
International Critics’ Week has a Jury including Joachim Trier (Norwegian film director) as Jury President.
L’Œil d’or has a Jury including Emmanuel Finkiel (French director) as Jury President.
