The Big Lebowski was written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, well-known for their surrealistic and subtle irony in masterpieces such as “Fargo” and “No Country For Old Man“. The Big Lebowski features Jeff Bridges as the Dude, John Goodman, and Steve Buscemi as the bowling buddies, Julianne Moore as seductive Maude Lebowski, Philip Seymour Hoffman as Big Lebowski’s personal assistant and mediator Brandt, and John Turturro as “purple” Jesus Quintana.
Released in 1998, it was not so successful in the box office, but it was the sign for the movie to become a no-time classic and living style for the following generations of “Dudittos”.
Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski lives his unemployed life enjoying every part of it. Yet, his serenity is disrupted when the henchmen of porn magnate Jackie Treehorn (Ben Gazzara) bump into his house, claiming that he is the Big (millionaire) Lebowski (David Huddleston) they want to take money from. After realizing that they made a mistake, they leave, ruining the Dude’s beloved rug. Since “that rug really tied the room together”, he decides to visit the Big Lebowski to have a new one in compensation. That is how the movie starts. That is how, due to a mistake of identity, the Dude finds himself caught in a spiral of conspiracies, ladies, pleasures, and Dali-like settings to get his carpet back: everyone claims to be somebody, but they are not; everything seems to be something, but it is something else. That is why the Dude escaped to his laid-down life. Yet, although you do not deal with the world, may the world hunt you back, even if you are no more than just a dude?
The Big Lebowski will be released by Park Circus in selected international territories throughout 2018 to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
If you are a fan of the movie or the Coen Brothers’ filmography, or if you want to escape reality for a bit, join “his Dudeness” and his bowling buddies into a world of nonsense, or maybe, into the madness of reality itself! What would the Dude do if he was told to watch Big Lebowski once again in cinemas? Well, the Dude abides!
Are you already looking forward to joining the gang? In the meantime, take a look at the teaser of the movie once again!
