Another May and yet another Cannes Film Festival. This year from 14th to 25th of May Cannes will become a hub for cinema, art and all the latest trends in the film industry during 72nd Cannes Film Festival
Before the festival can start jury has to be appointend or in Cannes Film Festival there are four juries that are appointed by Festival de Cannes board of directors – Jury du Festival de Cannes (Bestows the awards for the films in the Compétition section), Jury du Court Métrage (for short films in the Compétition and Cinéfondation sections of the festival), Un Certain Regard Jury (for films in the Un Certain Regard section), Caméra d’Or Jury (jury selects the winner of the Caméra d’Or award, for best film from a first-time director in the official selection, International Critics’ Week, and Directors’ Fortnight sections)
Jurors come form all around the word and from various backgrounds in the film industry. This years Jury is non like any other, probably because as it’s the firs ever presidence of a Latino-American filmakers – Alejandro González Iñárritu who’s film The Revenant has received awards in Academy Awards, BAFTA Awards and Golden Globes. Other Jury members for Jury du Festival de Cannes include American Actress Elle Fanning, actress and director Maimouna N’Diaye, director, screenwriter and editor Kelly Reichardt, Italian director and screenwriter Alice Rohrwacher, author of graphic novels and filmmaker Enki Bilal, director, screenwriter and editor Robin Campillo, director, screenwriter and producer Yorgos Lanthimos and director and screenwriter from Poland Pawel Powlikowski.
Claire Denis is the president for the Jury du Court Métrage and together with Actress Stacy Martin and Directors, Eran Kolirin, Panos H. Koutras and Cãtãlin Mitulescu will award the best short films in the Compétition as well as Cinéfondation sections of the festival. Un Certain Regard Jury this year consists of French actress Marina Foïs who’s the president, German producer Nurhan Sekerci-Porst, and directors Lisandro Alonso and Lukas Dhont. And last, but definitely not least Caméra d’Or Jury. Rithy Panh a director from Cambodia is the president and the rest of the team consists of French directors Alice Diop and Sandrine Marques, Cinematographer Benoît Delhomme and Sound Engineer Nicolas Naegelen.
The pressure is high to review a huge amount of films and find that one that stands out from the rest. Here’s the full list of movies
