⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The award winning short film “David” was written and directed by Zach Woods, who primary worked as an actor. He is probably best known for his role as Gabe Lewis in the NBC’s sitcom “The Office”. His magnificent 11 minute short film “David” is his directorial debut. A severely depressed man (starred by William Jackson Harper) needs therapy. However, he quickly realizes that he is not the only person who requires assistance as he gets to meet another men in need of help (played by Will Ferrell).
“Wood manages to portray two profound sides of a human being in just a few minutes: joy and sorrow”
Wood’s short film should have premiered last year at Cannes Film Festival which was cancelled due to the Covid Pandemic, so it premiered in September 2020 at the Toronto International Film Festival. Furthermore, it was the only short film from the U.S. which was nominated during Cannes Film Festival.
Without a lot of frills and special effects, Wood manages to show that pretty much everyone has a sad but also happy side to them. Not only because it is quick to watch, offers strong acting performances but also because it conveys basic knowledge about our emotional world. Zach Woods has proven that he is a director worth keeping an eye on as just looking at his first directorial debut “David” you can expect some great stuff from him in the future.
