The BFI London Film Festival is starting on 9th October and the Opening Night Gala will be a film from a British director: Paul Greengrass’s Captain Phillips starring Tom Hanks.
During this 12-day celebration of cinema 235 fiction and documentary features are screening, including 22 world premieres and 29 European premieres. There will also be screenings of 134 live action and animated shorts. Excellent directors, cast and crew will take part in career interviews, master classes and other special events! The festivals screenings are at venues across the capital, from West End cinemas, such as Odeon Leicester Square, to local cinemas, such as Ritzy Brixton and Hackney Picturehouse.
Awaited highlights are Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity, Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave and Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis. Saving Mr. Banks, the untold story of how Mary Poppins was brought to the screen, will close this year’s BFI London Film Festival on Sunday 20th October.
