Shortlist revealed for 9 Acamedy Award Categories
Oscars are probably one of the most awaited awards of the year, and luckily for our excitement The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has unveiled shortlist in considerations for the 91st Oscars for 9 categories – Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Foreign Language Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film and Visual Effects.
Hundreds of submission, but only a handful were shortlisted and got a step closer to winning an Oscar.
Academy Awards Documentary Brach reviewed 166 submissions for the Documentary Feature category this year. Only 15 movies made it to the next part of the selection. We’re happy to see some familiar documentaries, which we had a pleasure to review. Movies in considerations for the Oscar in Documentary Feature category are:

Documentary Free Solo about free soloist climber Alex Honnold was part of our “Top 10 Documentaries of 2018“. Just another reason to go an watch it now! Winning the Best Film Award in Jewish Film Festival in 2018 documentary Three Identical Strangers are now part of the shortlist!
Despite just choosing Documentary Feature to shortlist Academy Awards Documentary branch also was in charge of evaluating shorts submitted for Documentary Short Subject Category. Out of 104 films only ten were chosen and have advanced in the Documentary Short Subject category for the 91st Academy Awards. Shortlisted nominees are:

Acamedy Award members from all the branches screened and reviewed the movie to advance nine films out of 87 that were initially submitted for consideration. Here are the shortlisted films:

Seven films have been chosen for the Makeup and Hairstyling category. Members of Academy Award Makeup and Hairstyle branch will view excerpts from each of the movies on 5th January to determine 3 nominees for final Oscar Consideration. The shortlisted movies are:

156 original scores were reviewed by the Music Branch and 15 were advanced to the Original Score category. The original scores that have made the shortlist are:

10 films have advanced in the Animated Short Film category. Out of 81 submitted animated shorts, members of Short Films, and Feature Animation Branch were in charge of making the selection. The shortlisted Animated Short Films are:

Members of the Short Films, and Feature Animation Branch were also deciding on the shortlist for the Live Action Short Film. Ten films were advanced to the next stage out of 140 submissions. The shortlist consists of:

“Marguerite”
“May Day”
“Mother”
“Skin”
“Wale”
The Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee determined ten films that ended up in the shortlist for the Visual Effects category. Member of the Visual Effects Branch will screen and excerpts from each movie on 5th of January. Following the screening, five films will be nominated for Oscar consideration. Here are the ten shortlisted movies:

It’s only a small piece out of all the categories that Academy Awards are nominating. Nominations for the 91st Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 22, 2019.
